Throughout my four years at Hesston High School, I have taken on roles of leadership and responsibility that have shaped who I am today. I served in Student Council all four years, ultimately earning the role of President my senior year, where I worked to represent my fellow students and contribute to a positive school culture. I also attended the KSHSAA Leadership Workshop in both 2024 and 2025, which helped my understanding of what it means to lead with intention and purpose. Student Council taught me how to collaborate, communicate, and show up for others which are all skills I carry into everything I do.
One of the most meaningful experiences of my high school career came through swimming. During my senior year I served as team captain, but my involvement went far beyond the pool. When Newton decided not to renew their co-op agreement with Hesston, our swim program was at risk of disappearing entirely. I took it upon myself to help save it by getting swimmers from our school, working with our Athletic Director to secure what the team needed, and attending a Newton school board meeting to personally make the case for why the co-op should continue. Although the co-op did not survive, those efforts helped Hesston establish its own independent swim team, and I am proud to have played a role in making that happen.
